48 tweets (and counting) of solid sage advice
this twitter account is probably the best use of this GD internet phenomenon i have yet to find. while nobody really cares about the mundane life activities of ya'll out there, lots of people (398,281 of them to be exact) seem to care about the shit this 29 year old's dad says.
good lord, i was curled over laughing in my office reading some of these. there is nothing like a grumpy old, cussing man delivering sound life advice. read on: shitmydadsays
bravo, justin, you've really made my day, and saved the reputation of twitter.

my neighbor TOTORO
miyazaki's work is always magnificent! the recently released ponyo lived up to it's predecessors, but this film, my neighbor totoro, will always hold a special place in my heart.
tis grey out, and this hit the spot.
if you're in the mood or need for a lightened heart, pop this on. watch for the detail in the animation. it's stunning, and sweet.

these two girls remind me of krj and me. only instead of the japanese countryside, the dirt mound in our backyard and the firewood piles in the woods were our playground. the sort of playground where you think you're hidden by a different world seperate from the one your mom and dad are watching you from. i can remember our favorite game. the one where we pretended to be orphans and tried to escape the authorities who were trying to separate us. i think we read too many boxcar children books when we were younger, because we were always imitating hardship and endurance... we are our grandmothers grandchildren, that's for sure. that woman has been the cornerstone for the last three generations, and she still wields her power at 81. she is the same woman who repeated "you can't do anythign sitting down" and " your hands are working womens' hands. they're meant to work. use them." despite here insistant urges to stay busy and keep working while in her frequent care, she is still one of the softest spoken women i know, in fact, she only yelled a handful of times and usually at me. i could kick up a fuss about pretty much anything and i deserved it. hands down.
miyazaki has the power to bring about tangents into my childhood. actually, a lot of things bring be back to my youth.

swedish gentleman
i hope the swedish man i met on the bus this evening is enjoying his time in seattle. he came to washington to hike the olympic national park. it was his first night in the city after spending a week away from human contact (attracted immediately by thist fact), and as we were getting off at the last stop the bus driver told him that i new which bus would take him downtown (i commute, the driver must have recognized me). so, we spoke for a while. he was kind, and interesting. i was even tempted to be his personal tour guide, but decided it would be mildly inappropriate... although, i have a pang of regret not taking him around...
and then i was left with these tow nagging thoughts:
1) probability of seeing him: never
2) and encounters like these make me mull over the workings of time and timing.
in conclusion: i have set my sights on traveling. not a nomadic adventure set into full speed in order to cover as much of the world as possible in between rote life responsibilites, but in the style of a sedentary visit. it's all about absorbtion, becoming a sponge... and, i am ready to become a sponge again becuase i have long been squeezed dry since Galway.
am i making sense?
bear with me, (or not), i've had a long day.
chiao. xo.

old books put to use

wall storage created from books! brilliant. pam's blog gingerbread snowflakes details how to fashion storage folders out of books. i am thinking recipes, bills, cards, receipts just might find a home in one of these.
