goals for the immediate future (between now and july 31)

- compile my resume and make it shine
- apply for a position each week
- learn how to deal with difficult authority figures (mainly speaking of work here)
- bring out and dust off any skills i may have retained from my professional development training from years ago (directly related to the above authority figures)
- grad school applications
- make arrangements for our upcoming trip abroad
- look for a place to live for the end of september ( the jordan family abode is looking better and better)
- run more than 1x a week
- keep up with my self-set study schedule for learning russian

you know, i only intended to jot a few things down, (list it out, if you will) and looking at at this seems rather overwhelming. that goal setting workshop i survived is actually going to come in handy. time to break this down into little peices... i might keep moimoi updated (that's another small goal o' mine), but if i don't, forgive me. i am probably busy.

SIX word memoirist

can you tell your story in six words?

i have been scribbling fruitless attempts at this for weeks.

"eat, breathe, read on, be calm"
(which is a books song, partially)

mj and i spent a good amount of time trying to attempt this challenge. the wordsmith that he is, he produced a few dandy ones, including"

"the difference is i'm still here"

" i am more than six words"

SMITH magazine is calling for six words memoirs, by the way. here's the website:

Dr. Nontombi Naomi Tutu

I listened to her give a talk on campus this evening. Her talk was based on the philosophy of ubuntu. Ubuntu focuses on people's allegiances and relations with each other. It is the higher recognition that we are all human beings capable of human error and also capable of great love.

artist: Stacey Rozich

her bio says she likes doodles, kids books and miyazaki films. she works out of seattle. i fancy her art; it is such a new view of old themes and classic figures.

congratulations KRJ

my little sister was accepted to study in aberdeen, scotland. she leaves in five months. i have a few nerves about this, but mostly i am incredibly excited for her. of course, this also means i will be popping over there for a visit.

preparing for a study abroad is overwhelming, scary, and thrilling all at once.

i received a package last night :) it was a treat, and it warmed my heart a little, too. i am starting on the road of alternative country. surprisingly, i am not nervous. kind of excited.

rutttt

i need a diet change. i eat the same things each day with little variety. i'm finished using the size of my kitchen as an excuse not to cook (although i do only have a 12" by 20" usable counter space to work with). i'm thinking a pot of soup... fresh bread and salads.

Uma Thai Cuisine in Ballard

5401 20th Avenue NW
(between N Russell Ave & Market St)
Seattle, WA 9810

ok. ok. i'm the furthest thing from a foody but i have to drool over this restaurant for a minute. i can't take credit for finding it, a good friend of mine scouted it out since she lives in the ballard area, and she passed along the tip. it is easily one of the best thai places.... aside from jamjuree on capitol hill this place my favorite... although uma is quickly passing the former. the food was light, full of veggies and it was REALLY calm. the owner's/server's voice is surprisingly soft and he happily answered our question about the meaning of the name of his restaurant. (it means angel, btw).

i didn't take a picture of my $6 lunch. i can't seem to get that into food yet, but i think it might happen soon (thanks to my new blue camera that totally looks like it would be used by team zissou). ahem... bottom line: good price (lunch between 6-9 bucks) and great atmosphere.

it was the perfect middle part of my day spent with my dear lady friends.

phew

i don't know about you, but i am very glad this christmas is over, and that the year is wrapping up. i am not disappointed, far from it, but my goodness it has been a heavy year. if i receive one more phone call with bad news, or see one more sad face i am going to retire to my apartment for the remainder of the year.

it seems that everyone i care about has been issued a burden-- from poor health, to freak accidents. i am so grateful that everyone is ok and still kicking! bbbuuuutt.... here's to 2010! Laugh, love, and keep trucking... Cheers!

ahem... it's the season!

i am happy to report that i have a tree! it is a tiny version of this:

i've hung up the stockings made by liz from last year (thanks, liz). i have a few ornamants (hence the size of the tree) and i am looking forward to celebrating friends and family and making things cozy, so i can reflect on my year. i am not a scrooge afterall! i could just do without the commercial capitalist glam.

(p.s. if you haven't volunteered this year, or done something for the good of humanity, you have still four weeks left!)

looking quite noble indeed ;)

call for ideas!

i have approximately 300 floppy disks in varying colors. how do i reuse these? i am thinking of making notepads, diassembling them and making magnets or jewlery. ... they seem so sterile and a bit too techy for my taste, but i still feel a bit of inspiration towards these little fellas...

magical scraps

i love paper scraps. reading glean creative reuse led me to design sponge which led me to inchmark and this has given me many splendid ideas for putting my paper scrap collection into use (reuse, rather). i particularly love this magical thinking mason jar and i can't wait to get home to begin jotting, folding and stuffing my thoughts into.

Emmanuelle Alt- fashion designer- Vogue Paris

is that a moleskine clutched in her right hand? i think so.

every once in a while i daydream about fashion. when i do, this is what i admire. admiration is a funny word when talking about clothes, but i think fashion is more of an image, and a way of life than simply style. whatever it is, i like it.
